P415 Commercial BESS Services (EMP1 Options)
Overview of P415
P415 is an Elexon modification designed to facilitate the participation of Asset Metering Systems in the Balancing Mechanism (BM). It enables Asset Metering Virtual Lead Parties (AMVLPs) to register asset metering systems and allocate AMSID Pairs to their Secondary BM Units, allowing energy storage assets like Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to participate in balancing services.
Meter Solutions
For P415 commercial BESS services, we provide the following EM-Lite meter options:
EMP1.ax/ay/r/w/x
Specifications:
- Firmware Versions: v1.06.5, v1.06.6, v1.07.6 & v1.07.9
- Outstation Type: EM2
- Suitable for: Commercial BESS installations
- MDR compatibility: v3.4 (30/03/2022)
These meters are fully compliant with CoP11 requirements for Asset Metering Systems and can be installed as part of a BESS installation to enable participation in P415 balancing services. The EMP1 series supports comprehensive data collection needed for accurate settlement under the P415 framework.
EMP1.cr/cw/cx
Specifications:
- Firmware Versions: v2.00.7 & v2.00.8
- Outstation Type: EM2
- Latest Issue: 3 (01/06/2023)
- MDR compatibility: v3.4 (UDMS only)
This variant provides enhanced connectivity options and is particularly suitable for installations requiring remote monitoring capabilities.
Provision of ESNA Services to Solar Generators (EMP1 Options)
Overview of ESNA
The Exempt Supply Notification Agent (ESNA) role was introduced to identify exempt supply volumes from half-hourly metered data. ESNAs aggregate exempt supply volume data and submit it to the Settlement Administration Agent (SAA) according to the settlement timetable. This is particularly relevant for solar generators operating under license exemption arrangements.
Meter Solutions
For ESNA services to solar generators, we recommend:
EMP1.ax/ay/r/w/x
Specifications:
- Firmware Versions: v1.06.5, v1.06.6, v1.07.6 & v1.07.9
- Outstation Type: EM2
- Suitable for: Solar generators with exempt supply arrangements
- MDR compatibility: v3.4 (30/03/2022)
These meters provide accurate half-hourly data that can be used by an ESNA to calculate exempt supply volumes for settlement. They offer robust data collection capabilities required for exempt supply identification and reporting.
EMP1.cr/cw/cx
Specifications:
- Firmware Versions: v2.00.7 & v2.00.8
- Outstation Type: EM2
- Latest Issue: 3 (01/06/2023)
- MDR compatibility: v3.4 (UDMS only)
The enhanced connectivity of this variant makes it ideal for remote solar installations where regular physical access may be limited.
Provision of P455 Metering for Residential Microgrids (EMA1 and EMB1 Options)
Overview of P455
P455 introduced changes to facilitate the settlement of energy in private wire networks and microgrids. It enables more accurate settlement in these arrangements by providing a framework for metering and data collection in residential microgrid environments.
Meter Solutions
For P455 residential microgrid metering, we provide:
EMA1.ay/az/w/x/y/z
Specifications:
- Firmware Version: v3.03-2, v3.04-0, v3.04-2 & v3.04-5 (CoP10 Issue 3)
- Software Version: v3.20-4
- Latest Issue: 2/3 (9/10/2020 - 29/10/2022)
- Suitable for: Residential microgrid metering
These meters are designed specifically for residential microgrid applications where accurate settlement data is required under the P455 framework.
EMB1.ay/w/x/y/z
Specifications:
- Firmware Version: v3.04-5
- Software Version: v3.20-4
